As we head into a new month we say goodbye to a month that taught me that thankfulness should not be taken for granted. As the world saw the death of Queen Elizabeth, I watched interviews of people reminiscing on times they came face-to-face with her majesty. I started to think about what I am thankful for. I am grateful for my loved ones including: my sons, husband, parents, friends, and furry companions.
Most of us that share our lives with companion animals know they are part of our families. For instance Queen Elizabeth held a deep love and connection to animals. From her own Corgis, Dorgis, and Dachshunds, to over 100 horses, the late monarch was a passionate animal lover. It was a touching heartfelt moment to see the Queen’s dogs, her beloved corgis, at her funeral.
Pets have the power to enrich our lives and heal with their unconditional love, and companionship. I am thankful to be an animal advocate and a voice to animals.
October is Adopt a Dog Month and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. There are many lovely dogs sitting in shelters waiting for loving homes. Let’s take a moment to be grateful to our canine and even feline friends and thankful to those who have given their lives, careers, free time and voice to animals across the world.
Dogs have been closely connected with humans for a long time. They are special and in tune with our emotions. Dogs can sense when we need them to lift our spirits and they bring laughter, joy, and more meaning into our lives.
As the US and Canada get ready for thanksgiving celebrations this October let’s remember to be grateful to our loved ones including our furry friends. You can choose to do something special and adopt a less adoptable shelter dog this month! You won’t regret it and this experience will likely enrich your life and you can save a dog’s life and enrich yours too.
I am also thankful for YOU! If you are reading this blog then you most likely have an interest in improving the lives of our animal friends beyond dogs and being kind to every living sentient being. So far in 2022 we have seen a number of high-end retailers ban fur, we have seen big corporations being held accountable for their treatment of animals, cosmetic animal testing get banned in a number of states and countries and many people come to together to save animals from Ukraine and inbetween. None of those victories above would be possible without YOU, because when we stand up for causes we believe in, we make change possible. We have a long way to go in our fight against animal cruelty; however, we are a lot closer than we were yesterday and we will be closer tomorrow.
Lastly, I am grateful to share with you that I was offered a position as the Managing Director of Operations and Programs at the Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) so I can give a voice to shelter animals. Please check out EHS’s website to find available shelter dogs or contact me and if you cannot adopt consider volunteering by becoming a dog walker or even make a donation this Thanksgiving season and let’s help more homeless shelter animals find loving homes.
Wishing you a Happy and blessed Thanksgiving!!
