ACT NOW! HELP HORSES AND END THE CRUELTY! SUPPORT Bill C-355:
A Ban on the Export of Live Horses for Slaughter
Horse slaughter in Canada is a shameful secret! Together, we can ban the shipment of live horses for slaughter! But time is of the essence to support the bill!
Bill C-355, the Prohibition of the Export of Horses by Air for Slaughter Act, is legislation to ban the export of live horses by air for slaughter. It is an Act to prohibit the export by air of horses for slaughter and to make related amendments to certain Acts. But it has been stalled in the Senate since May 2024.
According to Humane Society International (HSI):
“Horses are slaughtered to provide horse meat to European and Asian countries such as Japan. Horses are brought to slaughter in every possible condition — old, young, sick, healthy, injured, and even pregnant.
They are not all unwanted — often, their guardians can no longer afford to keep them, and bring the horses to auction hoping to find them a good home. But horribly, more than 50 percent of horses sold at rural auctions go to slaughter after being bought by “kill buyers.”
Sadly, horses are transported in cramped conditions in trailers designed for shorter animals and travel in uncomfortable positions over long distances. Loading and unloading is stressful and dangerous for horses as they are moved along the relatively steep ramps. Canadian animal transport standards are among the worst in the industrialized world. Current regulations allow horses to be transported for up to 36 hours without food, water or rest.”
This is an unthinkable tragedy, and it is totally unacceptable that this horror is still happening. I know that if more Canadians were aware of this cruel practice, they would speak up against it!!

I have been advocating for animals for years. I dedicated Chapter 7 to horses in my book, “A VOICE FOR ANIMALS.” I discuss this tragedy to bring light to horses’ plight and the way they are mistreated. I was hopeful the bill would pass by now. I am shocked there is a delay.
As such, the time is NOW. I am urging you to please help horses. I cannot believe that this bill is stalled, and horses are continuing to suffer every day!
Please act now to end this tragedy!! Together, we can make a difference and make sure that no more horses are made to suffer and sent to slaughter. Let’s help horses and end this cruel practice in Canada.
